Miyari (hello) Weavers! I am feeling all the feels as we approach the spring equinox! It arrives on the 20th and in my culture it is the Taino New Year. The coming of Spring is full of celebrations and honoring of the Earth all around the world.
Nowruz (Iranian New Year), Holi (India), Ostara (pagan tradition), Chunfen (China), Shunbun no Hi (Japan) and many more.
My ancestors are most active during this time, as they come alive with the rumbling of the Earth, ready to awaken from their rest. Our indigenous practice heavily celebrates the coming of light into the darkness, where our Father Sun and Mother Moon come back into balance. In my second article, I shared how I do not start or celebrate the new year in January. Like many indigenous peoples, I celebrate it on the Spring Equinox. It never made sense to me to see people celebrating a new year during the darkness of winter when we are supposed to be in our rest phase. It also didn't make sense to me that people created vision boards during a time of introspection. I believe that now is the best time to sow your seeds, set intentions, create vision boards, dream, and connect to the craft of the Earth as a universal practice.
One of the greatest acts of resistance and self-activism is connecting to your roots - nature. Therefore, it is my intention to guide you all to reconnect and decolonize the ways in which you form relationships with the Earth. We are all children of the Earth, and it doesn't matter where you come from or who your ancestors are when it comes to our innate birthright of weaving magic, wisdom, and medicine with nature.
The colonizers' weapon against many indigenous peoples is to take our land and separate us from our connection to the Earth. They understand that it is a source of power and healing for us, so the oppressors destroy the Earth and deceive us about the dangers of nature. In a fast-paced, technology-driven world, our connection to the Earth often takes a backseat. Yet, we are inherently linked to the land, the waters, the forests, and the skies. The ancient, primordial bond between humanity and nature, when reignited, sparks a sense of belonging, purpose, and tranquility that modern life rarely offers.
Recognizing Ourselves as Nature Itself
The first step towards reconnection is recognizing that we are not simply inhabitants of the earth; rather, we are extensions of the earth itself. Our bodies and spirits are composed of the same elemental forces that shape the world around us. To truly see yourself as earth is to perceive your potential as limitless as the horizon and as vast as the cosmos that surrounds us.
The earth is not just a physical entity; it is a living library of knowledge and magic waiting to be explored. The cycles of the seasons, the ebb and flow of the tides, the dance of the constellations — all these natural phenomena hold within them a wealth of wisdom that our ancestors revered. By attuning ourselves to these rhythms, we not only find inner harmony but also unlock the hidden magic that resonates with the very essence of our being.
In acknowledging our shared essence with the woods, the rivers, and the creatures that inhabit them, we dissolve the artificial barriers we've constructed between "us" and "them." We carry within us the instincts of the wolf, the resilience of the oak, and the fluidity of the river, each element merging to form a tapestry of existence that intertwines with the fabric of nature itself.
The Urgency of Going Back to Our Roots
The pressing ecological challenges and societal disconnect stemming from our detachment from the earth emphasize the critical need to return to ancestral practices. It is not merely a longing for the past that beckons us but a crucial reclamation of a heritage that sustained our predecessors for generations.
It's easy to become disconnected from the natural world that surrounds us. The hustle and bustle of daily life often keep us indoors, glued to screens, and out of touch with the earth beneath our feet. However, there is a profound and transformative power in reconnecting with the earth, tapping into its magic, wisdom, and medicine that has been revered by cultures around the world for centuries. Earth magic is not just the stuff of fairy tales and folklore; it is a real and tangible force that can bring balance, healing, and renewal to our lives. When we take the time to immerse ourselves in nature, whether it be a walk in the woods, a moment by the ocean, or simply sitting in a park, we open ourselves up to the energy and rhythms of the earth.
This connection can bring us a sense of peace, grounding, and perspective that is often hard to find in our modern lives. The earth holds a deep well of wisdom that has been accumulated over millennia. By reconnecting with nature, we can tap into this ancient knowledge and learn valuable lessons about sustainability, interconnectedness, and the cycles of life and death. The earth teaches us to live in harmony with all living beings, to respect the delicate balance of ecosystems, and to appreciate the beauty and abundance that surrounds us.
In addition to its wisdom, the earth also offers us powerful medicine for both body and soul. From the healing properties of plants and herbs to the restorative energy of natural landscapes, nature provides us with a wealth of remedies for physical, emotional, and spiritual ailments. By reconnecting with the earth and its healing energies, we can find solace, strength, and resilience in the face of life's challenges.
So how can we embrace earth magic in our daily lives? It can be as simple as taking a daily walk outside, cultivating a garden, practicing mindfulness in nature, or participating in earth-based rituals and ceremonies. By making time to connect with the earth on a regular basis, we can nurture our relationship with the natural world and reap the countless benefits it has to offer.
In a world that often feels chaotic and disconnected, rekindling our bond with the earth is more important than ever. By embracing earth magic, wisdom, and medicine, we can find solace, inspiration, and healing in the embrace of nature. Let us take the time to slow down, listen to the whispers of the wind, and feel the heartbeat of the earth beneath our feet. In doing so, we can rediscover our place in the web of life and cultivate a deep sense of connection, gratitude, and reverence for the world around us.

Oh I love this practice and this reminder! I am constantly telling people “we are not just living on this Earth we are the Earth!” And totally agree about your sentiment around New Years and how being busy, and trying to do outward expressions of manifesting during introspective time makes 0 sense! I am excited for this workshop of connecting to nature as a form of self activism! 💞🙌🏻🫶🏼✨
